How the Program Works

The program is structured around the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation’s Living in Balance curriculum, an evidence-based approach to substance use recovery. In addition to addressing addiction, the program focuses on important emotional and relational areas such as grief, forgiveness, shame, guilt, communication, boundaries, and family dynamics.

Participants receive a combination of individual therapy, group therapy, and educational sessions. Family involvement is encouraged, with loved ones invited to participate in at least one formal session and additional educational opportunities throughout the program.

Our experienced clinical team works closely with each participant to develop an individualized recovery plan based on their personal history, challenges, and goals.

Our Approach to Care

At Four Rivers Behavioral Health, we understand that recovery is a personal and often difficult journey. Our staff brings years of experience in addiction treatment, and many team members have lived experience in recovery themselves.

We provide a supportive, non-judgmental environment where clients can openly address substance use and begin building a new path forward. Treatment focuses on understanding the root causes of addiction, addressing past challenges, and developing the skills needed to live a healthy, sober life.

Recovery requires courage, structure, and commitment—but most importantly, it requires support. Our team is here every step of the way.

Advantages of Intensive Outpatient Treatment

Intensive Outpatient Treatment offers several important benefits for individuals beginning their recovery journey:

  • Continue living at home while receiving structured treatment
  • Maintain employment or attend school during recovery
  • Access a program similar to residential treatment at a lower cost
  • Apply recovery skills in real-time within daily life
  • Stay connected to family and support systems

This balance of structure and independence helps create a strong foundation for long-term recovery.

What to Expect

Entering treatment is a significant step, and knowing what to expect can help you feel more prepared. Participants in the Intensive Outpatient Program can expect:

  • Random drug screenings throughout the program
  • Participation in weekly 12-step meetings such as Alcoholics Anonymous
  • Active engagement in therapy and educational sessions
  • The ability to understand and participate in treatment materials
  • A stable condition where withdrawal symptoms are safely managed

A strong support system is essential for recovery. Family and friends are encouraged to be part of the process whenever possible.
