Four Rivers Behavioral Health’s Early Childhood Mental Health program provides specialized services for young children from birth through age five and their families. The program focuses on supporting children who may be experiencing social, emotional, or behavioral challenges during early development.
Early intervention can play an important role in a child’s long-term well-being. By identifying concerns early and working closely with families, clinicians help children develop healthy emotional skills and positive relationships that support success at home, in school, and in the community.

Young children often struggle to explain their emotions or behaviors. Early Childhood Mental Health Specialists use play-based and developmentally appropriate therapeutic techniques to help children express themselves and learn healthy coping strategies.
Treatment focuses not only on the child but also on the family as a whole, recognizing that parents and caregivers play a vital role in supporting healthy emotional development.
Parenting can be challenging, and raising a child who is experiencing emotional or behavioral difficulties can feel overwhelming. Our clinicians work closely with families to provide guidance, education, and support throughout the treatment process.
Family participation helps ensure that the strategies learned during therapy continue at home, creating a consistent and supportive environment for the child.
Early Childhood Mental Health services may include:
Developmental and behavioral assessments
Individual therapeutic services for young children
Family support and parent guidance
Play-based therapy techniques
Referrals to additional services when needed
These services help identify concerns early while supporting both the child’s development and the family’s well-being.
Early Childhood therapists at Four Rivers Behavioral Health can also provide psychological testing services for children under the age of five. When children grow older, additional evaluations may be conducted through the Testing and Assessment Center, which serves children, adolescents, and adults.
Testing helps clinicians better understand developmental, emotional, and behavioral concerns so that appropriate treatment plans can be developed.
